The four focus SDGs
EBN has identified four SDGs as being most relevant to its public function and mission and the way in which it creates value:
- SDG 7: Affordable and sustainable energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
- SDG 9: Industry, innovation and infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation
- SDG 12: Responsible consumption and production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
- SDG 13: Climate action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
EBN focuses on four of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Reflecting the SDGs in our activities
SDG 13 is the overarching goal when it comes to our role in the energy transition. We conduct our activities that make a concrete contribution to SDG 7, 9 and 12 in a way that reduces the adverse impact of the Dutch energy system on the climate. To this end, we are working on cutting emissions and advancing a future-proof, carbon-neutral energy system.
Our operations in the field of geothermal energy, CCS and the development of alternative energy carriers like blue/green hydrogen and green gas are good examples of our efforts in this regard. Our commitment to extracting Dutch natural gas responsibly for as long as it is still needed is also relevant in this respect. Our dedicated, highly technically skilled staff are strongly committed to helping accelerate the energy transition.
Social context
Together, these SDGs define the social context within which EBN operates. Moreover, they emphasise the relevance of our vision, mission and ambition. The social context of the SDGs guides our strategy and our efforts to develop activities and connect parties who together contribute to making the gas supply and value chains more sustainable. We use our knowledge, expertise and organisational and financial stability to create the conditions that will enable a carbon-neutral energy system by 2050.
