Analysis of mixing during hydrogen storage in gas reservoirs – A reservoir simulation study

Conceptual dynamic flow modelling with the CMG GEM reservoir simulation software has been applied on the process of hydrogen stored in gas fields. The flow and mixing of hydrogen with the residual natural gas and cushion gas in the porous rock was investigated in detail. The results can be used to make more realistic predictions of the flow characteristics of an Underground Hydrogen Storage (UHS).
